Tenure-track assistant professor at GSSI

Jan 11, 2022

The Physics Division of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) invites expressions of interest for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level ( Tenure Track ) from highly qualified scholars worldwide with an interest in experimental research activities for gravitational-wave detectors.

Deadline for EoI: January 25th, 2022.

The GSSI is committed to gender balance, inclusion and diversity. Its physics division hosts scientists carrying out interdisciplinary research on a variety of subjects: gravitational waves, underground particle physics, multi-messenger astrophysics, high- energy astrophysics, cosmic rays and cosmology. The GSSI is a Center for Advanced Studies with a prominent program of graduate courses. About 8 physics graduate students from all over the world are admitted at GSSI every year, and part of the duties of the faculty is to provide teaching and supervision of their research activity.

The GSSI announces the opening of a tenure-track position (RTDb) for early 2022. The present call for expressions of interest is aimed at p robing the community of scientists at international level who might want to join the GSSI faculty. The new faculty member is expected to build a group for experimental gravitational-wave detection and to expand the GSSI contributions to ongoing and future projects like Einstein Telescope, Lunar Gravitational-wave Antenna, and Virgo.

Candidates willing to work in the exciting GSSI atmosphere, as tenure-track assistant professor, are required to have a doctoral degree in physics or related fields prior to the appointment, with a proven record of achievements, a clear potent ial to promote and lead research activities and a specific interest in teaching at the graduate and postgraduate level to a small set of particularly skilled students.

A curriculum vitae, list of publications, and a brief research statement should be sent by email (eoi-phys(at) together with a short motivation letter , in which the candidates discuss the reasons for their interest in joining the GSSI team. The candidates should also arrange for two recommendation letters to be sent directly to GSSI (eoi-phys(at) to support their application.
